Pottery wheel classes, hand-building workshops, sculpture, and open studio sessions for beginners and experienced makers alike. Learn ceramic art in the heart of Dublin 2 — in a welcoming, English-speaking studio where creativity comes first.
There's something almost meditative about the spin of the wheel and the way clay rises between your hands. Our wheel-throwing lessons welcome first-timers, returning artists, and intermediate potters ready to push their technique further — all in a calm, encouraging Dublin studio.
Learn to wedge clay, position yourself at the wheel, centre your ball, and open your first cylinder. No experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to make glorious mistakes.
Build on your throwing skills with bowls, mugs, and vases. Discover trimming, foot rings, and handle attachment while developing confidence and consistency in your forms.
For potters ready to refine their voice. Explore surface textures, glazing approaches, and work toward a cohesive series of pots that reflects your developing aesthetic.
Our adult pottery courses are designed around your schedule. Choose from weekday evening sessions starting from 6:30 pm or Saturday morning classes — ideal if you work during the week and want something genuinely satisfying to look forward to.
Dublin pottery classes at Clay Whisper Studio keep group sizes deliberately small. You'll get hands-on attention, patient guidance, and the kind of focused learning that helps you actually progress rather than just showing up.
Hand-building is the most direct conversation you can have with clay. Using only your hands, simple tools, and a handful of fundamental techniques, you'll craft bowls, mugs, plates, vases, tiles, and sculptural forms with a character no machine can replicate.
Our clay-making classes introduce you to pinch, coil, and slab building — three hand-building techniques that can be used individually or combined to make almost anything imaginable. You'll learn when to use each method and how to join clay pieces securely so your finished work survives the kiln.
These workshops appeal to hobbyists, craft lovers, eco-conscious makers who want to create sustainable home goods, and small business owners interested in developing a handmade ceramics range. Every student leaves with finished work to take home after firing.
"I'd never touched clay before and came out of the hand-building workshop with a set of breakfast bowls I actually use every day. The instructor made everything feel doable."
— Akeelah Blomgren, Dublin 4
Move beyond the functional and into the expressive. Our sculpture classes give beginners and transitioning artists a structured, playful environment to develop three-dimensional thinking, clay modelling technique, and a personal creative language in form and surface.
Many artists who draw, paint, or work in 2D are curious about sculpture but don't know where to start. Our beginner sculpture classes bridge that gap — you'll develop spatial awareness, understand how forms relate to light and shadow, and build confidence working in three dimensions.
Students work on form studies, figure and object modelling, surface texturing, and mixed-media experimentation combining clay with found materials. These are exploratory, process-focused sessions designed to help you discover what you want to say through sculptural form.
Form Study
Understand proportion, balance, and three-dimensional composition
Surface Treatment
Texture, carving, stamping, and colouring clay surfaces
Expressive Work
Push beyond realistic depiction into abstract sculptural concepts
Mixed Media
Combine clay with other materials for experimental outcomes
Strong drawing underpins everything in ceramics — from sketching vessel profiles before throwing, to designing surface patterns, to presenting a body of work for art school applications. Our drawing courses are built specifically for ceramic makers and aspiring artists.
Train your eye to see form, tone, and proportion accurately. Work from ceramic objects, still life arrangements, and the human figure to develop the fundamental drawing vocabulary every visual artist needs.
Learn to sketch profiles, cross-sections, and design variations of pots before you go to the wheel. This course helps potters plan forms more intentionally and develop a more sophisticated personal aesthetic.
Design repeat patterns, surface motifs, and decorative drawings for application to clay. Ideal for students preparing art school portfolios or makers developing a visual identity for their ceramic work.
If you're applying to an art college or design programme, our portfolio drawing course provides structured guidance on building a compelling body of observational and exploratory drawing work. Our instructors understand what admissions tutors look for and will help you present your practice confidently.
Not every creative day fits inside a structured class. Our Dublin open studio gives you independent access to wheels, tools, a range of clays, and kiln services — so you can work at your own pace, pursue your own projects, and build the kind of regular practice that actually develops your skills.
Whether you've completed a course with us or you're an experienced maker looking for a studio base in Dublin 2, open studio sessions give you the freedom and infrastructure to work seriously on your ceramic practice without a full-time studio commitment.
Drop-in clay time is available for beginners who want to explore without a fixed curriculum, and regular studio passes suit working professionals, local residents, and students who want to build ceramics into their weekly routine.
Ceramics is one of the most genuinely memorable shared experiences you can give someone. Whether you're planning a pottery date night, a birthday ceramic workshop, a corporate team-building afternoon, or a tourist-friendly creative outing in Dublin — we'll design something that actually works for your group.
Side-by-side at the wheel or sharing a slab of clay — date night pottery is playful, tactile, and genuinely fun. You'll laugh, create, and leave with something handmade together. Bookable for couples on weekday evenings.
Celebrate with a private group pottery class for 4–14 guests. Choose wheel-throwing, hand-building, or a mix. We'll have everything set up and ready — you just bring your people.
Our team-building pottery sessions get people out from behind screens, working with their hands, and genuinely communicating. Popular with Dublin-based offices looking for something more engaging than a pub quiz.
Something a bit different for the celebrations. A private pottery session is a creative, camera-worthy alternative to the usual. Groups of up to 14 welcome, with optional prosecco arrangements.
Located in central Dublin 2, we welcome tourists and short-stay visitors for one-off clay sessions. Take home a handmade piece as a genuinely unique Irish souvenir.
We work with community organisations, wellness groups, and school leavers on creative clay sessions that centre inclusion, mindfulness, and meaningful making.
We'll get back to you within one business day with availability and pricing.
Plenty of studios exist. We think the difference is in how a space makes you feel from the moment you walk in. Here's what shapes how we teach and who we teach.
We've taught hundreds of people who thought they "weren't creative." Our instructors meet you where you are, without jargon, impatience, or assumptions. You'll feel at ease quickly.
Our students become regulars. The studio has a social warmth to it — you'll recognise familiar faces, share techniques, and be part of a creative community in the middle of the city.
All classes are taught in English, making us particularly welcoming for expats, international students, and anyone new to Dublin who wants to connect with a community through art.
From your first pinch pot to a refined thrown series, we support your growth at every stage. Students who start as total beginners go on to exhibit work and develop personal studio practices.
Clay demands your full attention. For stressed professionals and anyone seeking a genuine mental reset, ceramics offers something screens can't — tactile, present, absorbing, and deeply satisfying.
At 14 Dame Street, Dublin 2, we're easy to reach after work or on weekends. Close to public transport, in the heart of the city, with no need for a car.

Every piece here began with someone who had never made anything from clay — or who hadn't picked it up in years. These are real outcomes from real students working across our ceramics showcase, pottery courses, and open studio sessions.
"I'd convinced myself I wasn't an arts person. I was wrong. After eight weeks of wheel-throwing at Clay Whisper Studio, I have a full set of mismatched-but-charming bowls on my kitchen shelf and I've signed up again immediately. The teaching is patient, the atmosphere is warm, and there's something genuinely magical about walking out of a studio with something you made yourself."
Kenlei Agravat
Software developer, Dublin 6W
"Brought my team here for an afternoon session. Best corporate event we've done in years. Nobody wanted to leave."
Joelise Bessel

"As an expat who'd just moved to Dublin, the open studio sessions gave me a community before I'd figured out anything else about the city."
Jaisy Esmoris

Woodroe Dayrell
Retired engineer, Ranelagh
"The sculpture class opened up a completely different side of art for me. I'd only ever painted flat surfaces. Three-dimensional work is addictive."
Roeshell Arsenec

"Booked a birthday pottery class for 10 of us. Honestly the best birthday I've had. Everything was organised perfectly and the instructor was brilliant."

Clay Whisper Studio was founded on a straightforward belief: that making things with your hands is one of the most human things you can do, and that everyone deserves access to it. We're a ceramics school and working studio in the centre of Dublin 2, teaching adults at every stage of their creative life.
Our courses — from pottery wheel classes and hand-building workshops to sculpture and drawing for ceramic artists — are taught with an emphasis on skill development, personal expression, and genuine creative community. We don't believe in the myth that some people are "artistic" and others aren't. We believe in teaching.
The studio is a place where working professionals come to decompress, where expats find community, where retirees rediscover play, and where aspiring artists take their first serious steps. We've designed our space and our teaching to make every person who walks through the door feel capable, welcome, and inspired to return.
